Microsoft Office v. Open Office and Others

Well, I'm a law student so that would explain the title of today's post. I've been reading a fair few articles on Office alternatives and I've myself tried a couple like OpenOffice 3.0 and Google Docs, but I was forced to make an in depth analysis only when one of my professors asked my opinion on whether the University would be better off going with OpenOffice or instead buying a discounted version of MS Office 2007? iPad : Bloated iPhone much?

Considerable hype has followed the launch of the iPad over the last few months.  The latest offering from the Apple stable is supposedly their most advanced and revolutionary device ever and 'magical' one at that, as claimed by Steve Jobs. So is it as magical as Jobs claims it to be? Unlikely. The iPad is simply an oversized version of the iPhone/iPod Touch and has very little room for flexibility as compared to normal laptops/netbooks. Apple has been establishing a proprietary empire for a while now, compatible with only their own products and the iPad is just a furtherance of the same agenda. We've spent most of our time bashing MS for their anti competitive policies which 'killed' competition, but Apple doesn't seem to want to be left far behind.
