HPalm!

Bleh well.

After some intense speculation on the future of Palm, it finally turns out that HP has come out and snapped up the struggling mobile phone/OS maker. Palm, which bet big on it's Pre and Pixi handsets earlier in 2009 received a major jolt with major carriers not giving it enough attention and a rather creepy ad campaign to boot. HP on the other hand, used to operate a brand of smart phones called iPaq which came along with it's acquisition of Compaq but it's not been doing so well lately. Still built on an aging WinMo platform and some seriously sad hardware, HP earned just $25 million in revenues from the brand, down from $57 million same time last year.

What can he do?

Sitting on the opposite end of the table in the canteen of the Delhi High Court, an old man was talking to his lawyer, explaining his problem. From what I could hear, it was some sort of a property dispute. The lawyer was a young woman in her late twenties. She was listening intently but she didn't seem to be very good, though I am by no means a good judge of a lawyer's capability just from their looks. But anyway, you do get a sort of vibe from a lawyer. And this one wasn't very good.

The lucky ones

Ever since I started interning at the Delhi High Court, I've traveled more on buses than I ever have in my life. Along the way, I've done seen more of Delhi than I probably will ever care to see. One very irritating aspect of bus travel is the fact that even on moderately packed buses, no one EVER seems to vacate their seats. What the hell are they on the bus for? Traveling the entire route for shits and giggles? And it's not like I've traveled for short distances either, I've stayed on the bus for a good twenty odd kilometers and not a single person on the bus ever got off at any station. It's like they're sitting there just to mock your misfortune.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the greatest of them all?

I've been a fan of Sachin Tendulkar for longer than I can remember. Since the day I started watching cricket, I remember switching to the cricket channel just to watch the genius at work. And then I would turn it off if he got out, god forbid. Back when I was around ten years old, I didn't even know the difference between a cover drive and a square cut but I was in this love with this character. Diminutive and humble, the man exuded a confidence on the field unparalleled by any other. Absolutely still at the crease, runs flowed from his bat like water off a cliff. It didn't matter if he was scratching around for a dozen runs for a single run, but when he hit that one shot which reached the fence, damn it felt good.

Some random stuff on freelance writing...

After running an online writing business for almost one and a half years now, I've reached some sort of understanding on how to conduct a business online. Of course, the knowledge didn't come overnight and only after some pretty tense months when nothing much seemed to be happening. When I started out, the pay wasn't all that good but I was under the impression I was going to become a millionaire overnight (yep, them dollars are worth a lot in India). However, I had no business values to speak of whatsoever. No, I didn't go around scamming clients all over the place (I never have actually) but I had a pretty lax attitude to deadlines, with some ridiculous ideas to boot.

Once Upon A Time...

....EDGE/GPRS on my Airtel connection was actually fun to use. Around a year ago, I could easily hook up my cellphone to my laptop and enjoy a pretty good surfing speed. Downloads too weren't that shabby, I could get a decent 20-30 KBps download speed at most times of the day. Ah well, times change.

DHGate.com

There's this site I've been seeing advertised all over the place, but I haven't really paid any attention on it. Every tech site I've been on, I've seen banner ads for DHgate.com. So I was just getting my updates on the Mobile World Conference going on in Barcelona when this little advertisement caught my eye on engadget.com:

Check out what I found next after the break.
